PRODUCT
RATING: OUTSTANDING
RATING EXPLAINED: This is an outstanding product with outstanding
results.
If there is anyone out there who has problems getting their children
to pick up after themselves, or each other. Or maybe you have problems
with getting them to behave and follow the rules of the house. Then
this is the product for you. In a matter of days it will have your
child behaving and cleaning. After a week you will be asking your
sweet little helper 'who are you and what have you done with my
child.' At least I did. This Program is solidly based on spiritual and
scriptural help. It uses the Happy Face Token method for rewarding
good behavior. Children earn Happy Faces by doing anything that is
good, praiseworthy, virtuous, loving, kind, honorable, honest as well
as others. They also learn the consequences of bad behavior. The child
can lose all or a select number of tokens for undesirable behavior,
such as throwing a tantrum, back talking, rudeness, lying, are some.
There is also the ultimate reward for the kids, of being able to trade
their tokens in for something on the reward list. My 6-year-old
daughter can be lazy at times, ok most of the time, but getting her to
do her chores was like trying to pull teeth. After just one week of
implementing this program she is a different person. She even picks up
after her father. The results are amazing. This product actually
works. It is very simple and easy to use. The author has even included
charts and reproducibles in the book. All you need is a few minutes of
planning time, a copier and you are on your way to a happier,
healthier home. I would recommend this product to anyone with
children. It is definitely a ‘must have’. This is my sole opinion
of the product ‘From Combat Zone to... Love at Home’ by Debbie
Preece. The author herself says it best with this quote. ‘This is
NOT A MISSION IMPOSSIBLE. This is a unique, simple, inspired “battle
plan” geared for the happiness and well being of mom. This step by
step survival kit is set up with built in success that can last as
long as the children are in the home. The children will be so happy
with this inspired program that they won’t let it end. Soon, you
will be known by your children as “THE BEST MOM IN THE WHOLE
WORLD” and they will be contributing happily and cheerfully to the
most wonderful family in the world.’

Chore
and Behavior Systems
“Lost,
yesterday, somewhere between sunrise and sunset,
two golden hours, each set with sixty diamond
minutes. No reward is offered, for they are gone
forever.” Horace Mann
This
issue we are covering an area dear to my heart. I
have long been engrossed in trying to find the
perfect chore and behavior system for my family to
use. This illusive system must be easy to
implement, inexpensive, appealing to mother and
children, and of course, effective. Here are my
favorites.
From
Combat Zone to Love at Home
by
Debbie Preece
This
72-page book explains how to implement what is
called “The Happy Face Token System.”
Two
different sources recently have caused me to
re-evaluate our thinking about rewarding children
for doing “what they’re supposed to do anyway.
One
was evangelical pastor and author John Piper, who
musters up some pretty strong theological
arguments that God wants us to serve Him with His
rewards in view, not try to
ignore His rewards and just serve Him because
it’s right to do so. He cites many, many
Scriptures, but to mention just one, “He who
comes to Cod must believe that He is, and that He
is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him”
Hebrews 11:6.
If
we are to take the Lord God as our model in
raising children, then the implication is that we
should also provide appropriate rewards. I have
never wanted to bribe
our children into compliance, so I found the
following excerpt from Debbie Preece's book
very interesting: She notes that: ...according to
Webster’s Dictionary a bribe is: ‘Anything
especially money-given or promised to induce a
person to do something illegal or wrong.’
...Webster s defines a blessing as, The gift of
divine favor. Anything that gives happiness or
prevents misfortune. Is it possible that you are
the instrument by which
God has provided a way for your children to be the
best they can be? Yes. Therefore, it’s okay to
provide blessings for them when
they do good. A
reward is: “Something given in return for good.
. . . Given in recompense for a good deed . . .
instead of bribing our children to do what we want
them
to do, we will bless and reward them in
righteousness.”
It
is important to note, lest anyone be concerned
that a reward system would have the effect of
causing parents to “wink at sin;’ this system
also mandates the loss
of rewards (tokens) for disobedience or failing to
fulfill responsibilities.
This
book is packed with fun ideas like “The Slothful
Servant Quarantine;’ as well as practical charts
and ideas. The production is not the most professional
but still very useable.
Altogether a very valuable resource to aid you in child training and selling up and enforcing chores.
